NorseAqua, together with the Dutch company HATO, is expanding its expertise in animal lighting to also include aquaculture.

HATO, a leader in animal lighting, is launching a specialized lighting series for aquaculture—built on over 10 years of experience in lighting for fish farming and 50 years of innovation in animal lighting. The launch of these lights, specially tailored for aquaculture, marks a strategic extension of HATO’s expertise. The new systems are designed to support optimal growth, welfare, and operational efficiency, grounded in a scientific approach and developed closely in collaboration with aquaculture professionals.

Scientific research has shown that lighting plays a critical role in fish development, behavior, and health. Factors such as light intensity, spectrum, and photoperiod can significantly affect growth rates and stress levels. HATO’s lighting systems for aquaculture are designed to align with these biological needs and offer tailored solutions for species like salmon and trout.

The new product line is developed for use in fish farming facilities, with a focus on lighting conditions that can affect fish growth and health.

“Lighting has always been our way of improving animal welfare. We now aim to adapt this approach to the needs of aquatic species,” says Michiel van der Meer, General Manager of HATO Aqua, in a press release.

The company’s initiative is based on over ten years of experience with lighting in fish pens, combined with research on how light intensity, spectrum, and photoperiods can affect species such as salmon and trout.

In Norway, NorseAqua AS will be responsible for distribution, installation, and technical support.
